Where and when Warehouse #1 started, what the name means and how The Good Spirits Company came to bottle rum from Jamaica.

It begins with Dr. Bob.

It all began with rediscovering Jamaican rum after many years in Central Europe. Jiri and Jakub invited me to meet Dr. Joy Spence during her first visit to the Czech Republic. Through her extraordinary rums and wonderful personality, everything I had always loved about Jamaican rum came rushing back.

A year later, I returned to Jamaica for the first time in several decades. Visiting the distilleries, reconnecting with the culture, and immersing myself in the warmth of its people reignited that passion. It also sparked an idea: to bring some of Jamaica's most distinctive rum marques to Europe, allowing enthusiasts to experience their true character and diversity.

That idea became Warehouse #1 Rums of Jamaica. We started in 2021 with unaged, full-strength rums that showcase the unmistakable character of Jamaican distillation. In 2022, we began maturing selected marques from the island's five distilleries in American virgin oak here in Europe, exploring how time and wood could add another dimension to their character.

Today, we are proud to be overseeing the maturation of 16 marques. The adventure continues, driven by the same passion for discovering exceptional Jamaican rums and sharing the island's extraordinary spirits, culture, and people with fellow enthusiasts.
